Turmeric is a root, similar to ginger, that contains a variety of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-carcinogenic properties. It is rich in vitamin C, E and K as well as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and zinc. BASICALLY it’s a one-stop shop for many of your vitamin and mineral needs.
As winter kicks in, our joints stiffen and immune system weakens, making winter the perfect time to introduce turmeric into your diet. As a natural anti-inflammatory, turmeric has been found to relieve moderate joint pain and intestinal inflammation. Reducing inflammation in the body enhances our daily mobility as well as overall cell function, which improves the transfer of nutrients in the blood stream.
The benefits of turmeric goes beyond inflammation. Turmeric is a natural liver detoxifier and aids fat digestion, which let's be honest is essential during the holidays! Improving liver function increases the flow of bile to the intestinal tract allowing for an increase breakdown of dietary fat, improving weight loss and weight management.
So without further ado, this month I challenge you to try TURMERIC - and here’s how.

TIP: When cooking with turmeric it is best to pair it with a black pepper. Pepper develops the turmeric flavor and increases the absorption of nutrients benefits by 3 times!
